Our Mission
FAFSWAG is a brand that celebrates and documents emerging Queer Pacific Culture within New Zealand's urban landscapes. Driven by community, we are a creative platform for connectivity amongst young gay Pacific people navigating their unique identities within NZ's urban jungles.
We exist to create space — space for expression, for visibility, and for the stories that too often go untold. Through arts programming, ball culture events, and community workshops, FAFSWAG champions the voices of Pasefika LGBTIQ artists and performers across South Auckland and beyond.
Community-Driven
Everything we do is powered by the people. FAFSWAG emerged from the need for a platform where young gay Pacific people could see themselves reflected — not as outsiders, but as creators, leaders, and innovators shaping contemporary culture.
Our work spans visual arts exhibitions, ballroom competitions, video documentation, and hands-on workshop series that build skills and confidence across our community.
What We Do
- FAFSWAG Ball — A high-energy ball culture event with categories spanning catwalk, vogue, and runway, featuring houses from across the scene.
- FAFSWAG Arts — Exhibitions like No Fruit Without Labour (2014) showcasing emerging Pasefika LGBTIQ visual artists, plus participation in the Auckland PRIDE Festival Pasefika Youth Float.
- Workshop Series — Programs including Drag Me Out South, Hustle N Flow, The Art of Resistance, Ula, Vogue Jam, and Zine Machine.
- Video & Documentation — Capturing ball events, artist projects, and community moments for a growing archive of Queer Pacific storytelling.
FAFSWAG exists at the intersection of Pacific identity and queer expression, rooted in the urban landscapes of South Auckland. More than a creative collective, it is a living archive of stories, movement, and resistance — documenting the lives of young Pasefika LGBTIQ people navigating their place within Aotearoa. Through ballroom culture, visual arts, and community gatherings, the platform carves out space for voices often pushed to the margins. Every performance, workshop, and exhibition is an act of defiance and celebration, reclaiming narratives around faith, family, and belonging. It is a home for those building futures where being brown, queer, and Pacific is not something to hide, but something to honour.
Navigating Identity
For young gay Pacific people, identity is a complex and beautiful negotiation — between tradition and modernity, between family and self, between the islands and the city. FAFSWAG holds space for all of it.
We believe that art and performance are powerful tools for navigating these intersections. Our platform encourages every individual to bring their full self — their culture, their queerness, their creativity — into the light.
